AN: I felt like I hadn't finished so I've written another chapter and asked Howbright to proof read it for me, I hope you like what I've done and please let me know what you think. Thank you and have a cookie (::)

They had made it back into the school by the time the teachers had all dragged themselves out of bed and set out breakfast along with a lot of coffee as is tradition for the first day of term, they looked over the options on the table and grabbed what they wanted and found a space at the table watching the others slowly filter in pointing out who was who, there was a blur and suddenly there was one of the boys from last night, the one with silver hair.

"Hi, I'm peter, I see you've already met Kurt" he said taking a quick drink of coffee and taking a moment with laughter smile at the blue boy crunching his cereal dry without milk. Peter looked back over to Rose.

"It's nice to meet you, I'm Rose" The winged mutant smiled easily, feeling really at home, and warm at the friendly introduction.

"Already making friends Rosalind" her cousin grinned, walking up behind her and ruffling her hair gently.

Rose smiled and rolled her eyes, ears flattening irritably.

"Thanks mark, the coffee is next to the orange juice" Rose said trying to fix her hair.

"He's my cousin" Rose explained, turning back to face peter and Kurt.

" he's going to be here for a week because my Aunt wanted to make sure that I have someone to help me settle in"

"That's not the crazy one is it?" Kurt asked.

"No, her twin sister, I have a big family" she explained calmly.

"So, what do you mean by crazy?" Peter asked curiously.

"When Rose was born, she freaked out about her wings and decided to talk to the doctors about removing them without her mum and dad knowing, then there was the time she broke one of your wings when you were struggling into your costume for the school nativity" Mark explained.

"I get the feeling that there's a story there" Peter said looking between Rose and Mark.

"Ok, so- I went to a church school and we had a yearly nativity at the local church that was connected to my school. My teacher decided I should be one of the angels because of my wings, which means a sparkly white and gold dress and halo. When I was getting ready in the church hall with the others our Aunt came in when I was trying to get my wings through the holes in the back of my dress, so she decided, in front of my class and their parents, to grab one of my wings to pull them through... as I've told Kurt my bones aren't very strong so of course several of them broke and because of that I started screaming. My Aunt got in trouble, the nativity had to be rescheduled and I had my wing in a cast for ages. So that's one of the stories about why we try not to talk to our crazy Aunt..." Rose explained, she looked up to see everyone in the kitchen staring at her agape.

"Wow, that actually happened" Peter said wide eyed in shock.

"Yup, most of us cut ties with her after that" mark added

"I'm not surprised, do any of you still talk to her?"

"Just our grandparents and that's only because our cousins and her husband actually really nice" Rose said

"We're just waiting for the inevitable at this point" said Mark.

"What's it like where you live?" Kurt asked to change the subject

"Penwortham? It's alright, there isn't much to do there and the traffic can be awful but the yearly gala can be fun and you could walk to Preston and from there you could go anywhere, so it could be worse"

"Seriously what is wrong with the ac here!" came a shout from someone near them.

Rose slid down in her seat a faint blush covering the bridge of her nose.

"Deep breaths frost bite" Mark said rubbing her shoulder to comfort her, "it's ok, they're just being stupid and not thinking about what they're saying"

Peter and Kurt watched confused before spotting a small patch of frost where her hands had been and the fact that it felt colder where they were than usual, she closed her eyes, took a deep breath and the ice melted.

"There you go, you're getting better" Mark said to encourage her.

They were all startled out of their reverie by the appearance of one of the teachers Rose had seen earlier on her way inside, he had been running.

"Good morning Logan" Kurt said brightly hoping to make Rose feel better by pretending that he hadn't seen her lose control of her powers and distracting her with meeting one of her new teachers.

"Morning kid" he said tiredly while he walked past with a large mug filled with coffee

"He's our history teacher" he said with a bright smile.

In walked hank the teacher who had greeted Rose yesterday "Miss Wintersmith" he nodded.

"Hi Hank" Peter said raising his mug.

"Good morning Hank" said Peter.

"Morning, Peter you best not let Cifer see you drinking that..." Hank warned him

"I won't and I can out run her easily"

"I wouldn't be so sure; anyway, Rose we need to do your evaluation for your lessons on working with your powers, Cifer will meet you by the lake in half an hour, your cousin can join you if you want" Hank said to Rose

"Thank you Hank" she replied.

They finished their breakfast before Rose and Mark made their way out towards the lake where Cifer was waiting.

"Hello again, you don't have to worry, all we are going to do is go over how you control your powers and get an idea of how to proceed with your training here, we are also going to try and get a baseline so we know where to improve"

Cifer stood there with her clipboard calmly reading something pinned to it, long white trench coat shifting in the breeze.

"So, from what it says here you can create ice and control plants, along with a few other abilities- but we're going to focus on the first two for now and see if we need to address the others later"

"Ok, so what do I need to do?" Asked Rose matter of factly.

"Let's start with the ice and go from there, do whatever you feel comfortable with and I'll take note"

"Umm, ok" said the small mutant.

She took a few moments to take a deep breath and started to form a ball of ice in her hands, once it was about the size of a tennis ball she threw it into the air and watched it explode into snowflakes that quickly melted.

"Well done, now we need to go over your plant-based abilities, again whatever makes you comfortable" Cifer said after taking notes.

"One moment" Rose said looking round for something to use to demonstrate properly, grabbing a daisy, holding it in her hand she focused and the flower re grew its roots then more flowers started to sprout from the bundle of roots. While she was doing that the grass at her feet had started to grow wild and covered in a layer of frost.

"Can you reverse that, like with the ice?" asked the tall mutant calmly.

"I don't know" Rose said in a small voice, she had never really thought about it before.

"Can you try, just doing what you did now just in reverse, if you can't it doesn't matter it can be something we can work on later"

"I'll try" she focused, it took a few moments but some of the newer flowers started to slowly recede it was like watching it in reverse, when she stopped the roots and some of the larger flowers were still there but the smaller ones had gone and the grass at the her feet had receded slightly.

"That's some impressive control, I'm guessing that was harder to do"

"Yea, plants want to grow, I just persuade them to grow the way I want them to, getting them to do the opposite is tricky"

"Ok I'll let the professor know, I will tell you now that it isn't going to be easy, we will be pushing your limits, but it will help you improve, you already have your timetable and a campus map so you will be able to find your way to your fist lesson- don't worry about being late all the teachers know that the first day is evaluations for new students" Cifer explained, shuffling through the pile of papers held down with a glass paperweight and placing the one on her clipboard at the bottom and replacing it with one from the top of the pile.

"Thank you" said Rose simply. Cifer gave her a small smile. It was the first time she had seen the mysterious mutant smile this whole time.

When they got to the school building Mark said that he would find somewhere to sit and read while she was in her classes, and they parted ways -Mark for the library, and Rose for her first history lesson of the year.

She knocked on the door and went inside. The class room was pretty standard with a board and some pictures around the room, there were desks arranged around the room facing the teacher.

"Good morning Miss Wintersmith, could you go sit next to Kurt? we're just going through some start of term things so you haven't missed much"

"Hello again" she whispered.

"Hi" said Kurt quietly, leaning over discreetly to where Rose was assembling her back pack and school supplies "you don't have to worry, Logan isn't as scary as he looks" Kurt whispered back with a smile.

They sat in the class listening to Logan and taking notes. Part way through the lesson she felt like someone was staring at her and Kurt.

"Do you feel like you're being stared at?" she asked Kurt discreetly.

"Yea, just ignore it, some new students aren't used to more obvious mutants don't worry" Kurt tried to reassure her, she took a few deep breaths to calm herself and kept working but the feeling didn't go away.

They finished their lesson and were leaving for the next one when she was shoved from behind, she was saved from another broken arm by Kurt caching her around her waist as gently as he could without getting smacked by her wings.

"Are you ok?" he asked, helping her get her feet back under her.

"Yea, thanks, that would have been painful, I'll see you later"

She walked off towards her next class promising to meet for lunch.

"What happened?" Peter asked suddenly appearing next to Kurt

"Someone was in a rush and knocked her over, I caught her so she's fine" Kurt replied looking slightly worried.

They started heading to their next class talking about what they thought about the new students. Peter couldn't help but think about how adorable Kurt and Rose were, it wasn't just the fact that they looked like siblings but the strong connection they already had.

He was still a little worried that he may lose Kurt but he also didn't want anything to change, at least not yet, maybe he should talk to Mark (Roses cousin) or Happy- on second thoughts probably not Happy, she might tell Kurt.

The day passed as usual for most first days of any school, going through start of term notices and what is going to happen in each class. They got to the end of the day and everyone started to find things to do with their free time in the evening.

Rose went to find the others discovering that they had congregated in the library, Happy had claimed one of the larger chairs and was drawing in the sketch book, Cifer was sat at a desk behind her occasionally giving her pointers while typing away at the computer, Ororo and Jean had taken another desk to do some of their course work, Peter and Kurt were lying on one of the sofas looking extremely cute while listening to Peter's Walkman. Jubilee had a magazine and was circling things in it with a pen, Bubbles was next to her reading from one of the books she had pulled from the shelves, Scott had found a comic and was reading while taking up almost an entire sofa. Mark had claimed the window seat and was reading lord of the rings.

"Damn it Cifer, I'm trying to make art! can you stop shitting all over my ship?" Happy suddenly shouted getting everyone's attention.

Cifer looked shocked "I'm not, I'm sorry I was just trying to-"

Happy huffed, but after a moment started to laugh, rolling her eyes "Hahaha, I know Cifer, just try to keep a rain on your perfectionism, ok? I forgive you"

Rose snuck round to look at what Happy had been drawing, it was a picture of Peter and Kurt looking at each other with very romantic expressions, looking up then back at the drawing once everyone had settled down she murmured to Happy "I ship it" before going to join her cousin, Jean looked at the other girls in the room and smirked, she knew that they would get those two together if it was the last thing they did.
