AN: Got another update for you guys. I know I don't update often, but I still enjoy working on this and seeing where it goes.

Disclaimer: I do not own The Amazing World of Gumball, nor do I own Alaska who is the character of Amethyst Wereraven. This story is adopted from her own "Dragon Rider" story.

Penny couldn't sleep. It wasn't the nightmares this time nor was it Carmen's snoring. She just couldn't sleep for some reason. Getting out of her sheets, she carefully looked at her friend who were all resting in their sleeping bags. Or in the case of Masami, floating in the air with a silent snore. Penny smiled as she thought about how her friends did their best to cheer her up with this slumber party. Honestly, it was the most fun she had in days.

Getting up, Penny floated out to her window and opened it to slowly rest on the roof of her house. She liked to watch the stars at night when something troubled her, and her heart was definitely troubled. She knew she couldn't think about Gumball forever. Nor would he want her to keep mourning for him. Yet, deep down, Penny was scared of just saying goodbye.

Because that would mean that what happened was real and her boyfriend, the cat who she loved for years, would never come back to her. It was foolish to think that the dead could come back to life, but then again she saw a dragon and its knight dressed rider fighting that monster. So who knows what was possible.

Still, she knew she had to say goodbye, but not like this. His grave isn't far from here. I could make it and come back. With her transformation powers it was easy. Closing her eyes, she turned herself into a bird and started to fly with the midnight wind.

It felt good to stretch her wings as was the case. To fly in the sky without a single worry. It was one of Penny's favorite things to do ever since she came out of her shell. It made her feel experiences that she never thought possible. It wasn't just flying. Swimming as a fish. Running through the trees as a wolf. They were all such wonderful experiences that she wondered why her ancestors sealed their powers in the first place.

And Penny would never have experienced them if Gumball hadn't given her the courage to break out of her shell. Everything she felt, and loved since that day, was because of him. Now he's gone. And those experiences will never feel the same again.

She soon noticed she was at the cemetery and landed near the entrance before turning back into her normal fairy form. Pressing her hand at the gate, Penny paused and felt her feet tremble. What if she wasn't ready? Or what if she should do this with someone beside her like the Wattersons, her family or her friends.

No, I have to do this now, Penny thought as she was about to head inside when she heard something behind her. Shaken, she turned around, but found nothing but an empty dumpster in the alley across from her.

"H-hello?" she cried out, wondering if someone was here.

"Meow." A normal black and white cat walked out of the alley and sat down, licking its paws before looking back at Penny. "Meow."

Sighing in relief, Penny walked across the street and petted the cute kitty who purred against her hand. "Aw, you scared me little kitty." She looked at the cat and saw that there was no collar on it. "You a stray little fella?" Picking the tiny thing up, Penny looked into its feline eyes and smiled. "I feel a bit stray sometimes too, you know?"

"Meow!" It cried before jumping out of Penny's arms and rushed down the street.

"Wait, where are-" Penny didn't get a chance to finish as she felt something sticky land on her back and dragged her off her feet. She screamed as whatever had her dragged her deeper into the dark alley. She tried to transform, but a set of legs quickly grabbed her and started spinning her around while more of the sticky substance began to cocoon her.

She continued to cry for help, but her voice died the moment she saw her attack. Penny had seen spiders before. Giant ones as big as her hand. But this...monstrous one was as big as a hummer! It was black with thick grey hairs with spiky limbs that look sharp enough to cut steel. It's thorax wide and big enough to crush a person while a big grey swirling sphere with black pulses of energy laid in the middle on top of it. But the worst was its face and what she saw that was so utterly, and terrifyingly, familiar. It's eyes were the same. The same as the monster that killed her Gumball. Eight glowing white orbs of voidless light that stared at her with its hideous fanged mouth.

Penny just stood there frozen upon seeing another of the creatures that killed her boyfriend before feeling a sharp pain at her side. She looked and saw the thorax had just stung her and that it was slowly getting dark. Cursing herself for her foolishness, Penny wondered if she would be joining Gumball soon as darkness took over.

With its prey asleep, the spider-liked Evacuatur finished wrapping up its latest prey before making its way towards the nearby storm drain in the river.

The missing teenagers were exactly the news that Gumball wanted to hear. Although he felt bad that the four teens were most likely dead, it was still good they had a lead to go by. The next morning he quickly told everyone what he and E-4 had discovered and quickly set up a plan. Gumball, Nicole, E-4, Alaska, and Anais were going to head as close to the area the teenagers were last seen while Darwin and Richard kept watching the news for any updates to text them about. Because the police were still a heavy presence they had to drive around them and wait near the forest next to the abandoned power factory that the teens were last seen at by some driver passing by.

Walking through the forest with E-4 and Alaska, Gumball hoped that they would be able to sense the Evacuatur. "Anything?" he asked.

"Not yet," E-4 said, scanning the place. "We don't know if we're hot or cold. We need to cover a larger area."

"We can't get too close or else the police will spot us," Gumball said, putting his paws in his pockets. "We could try to sneak around at night?"

"That might be the only option we have left. Are you sensing anything Alaska?" E-4 asked, but got no answer. "Alaska?"

"I...I think I can smell something...something wrong..." Alaska said, sniffing the air as she floated a bit higher in her tiny form. "I think it might be the Evacuatur!"

"Really? Great, where is it?" Gumball asked.

"I can't get a direct sense of where it's coming from, but the strongest smell is coming this way!" She flew in the northeast direction. Gumball and E-4 quickly follow suit and were jumping over rocks before they managed to get the middle of a clearing in the forest.

"So, where is it?" Gumball asked, looking around.

"Here!" Alaska said, flying towards some tall weeds. She pushed them aside to reveal an old storm drain. "The smell is coming from here." She sniffed a bit closer before gagging. "Along with a bunch of other stuff I do not want to know!"

Raising an eyebrow, Gumball looked down at the tiny opening and started to judge its size with his fingers. "Yeah, unless this Evacuatur is about the size of a plastic figurine, I don't think it's in there."

"Hmm, maybe not under here directly, but it might pass by," E-4 said as he proceeded to scan the surrounding area. After a few minutes, he beeped a few times before turning to the other two. "Just as I thought. The Evacuatur is using the giant sewer system to move around. That is why I felt the creature appear and disappear so quickly. It went underground."

Gumball slowly started to turn green. "Wait a minute, I have to go into the sewers?! Ugh, no thank you! It's got alligators, waste, dirty socks, and Chris Brown CD's. I am not going into the sewers!"

His cellphone rang and he quickly picked it up. "Hello?"

"Dude, Penny's missing!" Darwin said on the other line.

"What?! Missing?! What happened?! Did she get kidnapped?!" Gumball shouted with panic rushing through his body. "Call 911! Call the National Guard! Call Magnum P.I!"

"What happened?!" Alaska asked as she felt Gumball's fear and panic wash over her like icy cold water.

"Penny's gone!" Gumball shouted as he rushed towards the car. "Come on! We gotta get home and-" He skidded to a stop and cursed. "Darn it! I'm supposed to be dead! What do I..." He then turned to Alaska who titled her head.

Um, big brother? Why do I get a bad feeling about the way you're looking at me?

Stupid Gumball and his stupid romance, Alaska thought as she flew in the direction of the Fitzgerald home. Gumball had all but used the puppy's eyes to get her to check out and overhear what was going with Penny being missing and all. Since she was small now, she could easily sneak around without getting noticed. I hope I'm never like this when I get a boyfriend.

Alaska landed on one of the nearby telephone poles and looked down at the scene in front of her. The police were there doing their job while talking to witnesses. If she remembered correctly, the peanut people were Penny's parents which meant the other group were her friends. A chirp broke her out of her thoughts as Alaska stared at a bird tilting its head at her.

"What? Never seen a dragon fly before? Now scram." The bird chirped before flying off with Alaska soon doing the same as she glided towards the roof of the porch. She made sure to keep herself as near the edge as possible before poking her head down where a donut police officer was chatting with a tall peanut man with antlers coming out of his head. Alaska assumed this was Penny's father.

"So your daughter left no note about where she was going?" Sheriff Doughnut asked while writing in his notepad.

"No, and she said nothing to her friends or her family," Patrick replied, rubbing his hands nervously.

"Have you tried calling her?"

"She left her phone in her room," Patrick said, sighing in frustration. "She also didn't take her purse, extra clothes, food or anything so I don't think she ran away."

"Did she get any indication that she's been emotionally distressed?" Sheriff Doughnut asked which earned him a raised eyebrow. "Oh right, Gumball Watterson being dead."

Alaska rolled her eyes upon hearing this and leaned a bit closer to see if the Sheriff had any info, but to her eyebrow raising surprise he was just drawing a puppy. Town's finest by scaled butt. She then turned to her friends who were all saying pretty much the exact same thing. Sounds like she ran away, but without money? Or extra supplies? That's not very smart.

Maybe it was just an emotional reaction. Or maybe there was something everyone was missing. Deciding to move on, Alaska flew towards the windows and started looking through them to see where Penny's room was. Maybe inside one of them was a clue she could find. She narrowly got caught upon pass a window that lead to the living room of the parents due to Mrs. Fitzgerald inside, crying on her bed, but she managed to find an open window that appeared to be the right one.

Landing inside, Alaska took a deep sniff to try and get Penny's scent. It was hard to find due to how many girls were here last night, but eventually she found one that was...flying away? Did she transform into a bird or something? Why did she go out?

Before she could ponder further, she heard footsteps coming towards the door. Panicking, Alaska looked around until she saw some stuffed animals and quickly dived towards them before sitting still. A police officer came by and took a few photos of the room before leaving. Sighing in relief, Alaska walked over to the window and took to the skies again.

Alaska followed the scent for a long time, but eventually she landed near a dumpster by the cemetery. Why would she come here unless...

Hey, Sis. Any luck? Gumball asked in her mind.

Yeah, I think she was trying to see you last night at your grave, Alaska answered. I don't think she is there now. The gate looks like it hasn't been open in days.

Sniffing in the air, she froze upon getting a second familiar scent. An Evacuatur. Worse, it was the same scent from this morning. Damnit! I'll give you a call back, Gumball!

Huh? Alaska wai- she hung up on him, but she could feel his confusion and frustration through their bond. Promising to apologize later, Alaska flew down the alley and continued to follow the scent with a loud growl. The two scents we're always together now and that was just making Alaska even more nervous. Damnit, did she have to get in trouble with these things again?!

The scents continued onward through the streets and even up houses and buildings. She didn't know how big this thing was, but how was it possible that the Evacuatur managed to go around without anyone noticing it? Either the Evacuatur was a lot more stealthy or the people of Elmore were really heavy sleepers.

She finally managed to reach one of the city's river ravines where the scent ended up going into a large storm drain entrance that was big enough to fit a truck.

Wincing, Alaska called her brother on their mental hotline to tell him the bad news.

"I can't believe I am going into the sewers," Gumball grumbled all dressed in black. "How did I get convinced to do this?"

"I'd say it's because you need to save the day and be a hero, but it's mostly because Mrs. Mom said you'd be grounded if you didn't do your duty to help," Darwin answered as he put a black beanie on his head with a camera on it. "Plus, Penny's been captured."

"Yeah, you're right. I can't leave her in there, but was the rest of that necessary? Is being able to drive guilt ridden children into doing things a trait all parents get at some point?" Gumball wondered as he walked towards the entrance of the storm drain entrance that Alaska found. The family waited until dark to arrive in the van since the police searched the whole day in town for Penny until easing things up until night.

Anais showed her brother a tablet that had a map on it with a glowing blinking dot in the middle. "I managed to download a copy of the sewer system's map and put it in this tablet using a map tracking software. It should help you find your way through it."

"Thanks, now about that gas mask?" Gumball asked, putting the tablet under his armpit while holding out his paw. Anais rolled her eyes before handing one over to which Gumball put it on in a snap. "I swear everything involves a sewer at some point: video games, movies, tv shows, bad fanfiction. It's like a contractual obligated trope."

"Are you sure you don't want us coming with you, sweetie?" Nicole asked as she put her paw on her son's shoulder.

"Much as I like the help, Mom, I think me, Alaska, and E-4 should handle this by ourselves. We don't know what kind of Evacuatur this is and if it's anything like the last one I'll need to fight without worrying about you guys," Gumball said with a smile before pointing out the camera and bluetooth on his ear. "Besides, you guys will still be able to communicate with me and watch where I'm going with the other tablet. Right, Dad?"

Everyone turned to Richard who was licking his lips while pressing his thumbs in rapid pace on the screen. His starship blowing up aliens while dodging their missiles and lasers. Nicole rolled her eyes before swiping it away from him. "Aw, but Nicole. I was going to get the top score!"

Gumball took a deep breath as he turned to Alaska and E-4. "You guys ready?" The two nodded. "Alright, let's go save my girlfriend!"

"And?" Nicole asked.

"And save all the others that might be trapped, I know, Mom," Gumball said, rolling his eyes. E-4 activated his light as the three slowly walked inside ready for anything.

Penny slowly opened her eyes, but she wished she hadn't. Her entire vision was covered with white sticky thread that she realized was webbing. She quickly recalled the spider and how it stunned her. Struggling to get free, Penny realized it was useless and so she tried to transform into something that was big enough to get her free only to feel her magic drained inside her. Did...did it do something to me?

Cursing, Penny tried to look as well as she could through the webbing, but all she could see was a dark shadow that was crawling above her. Holding her breath, she stood still until it moved on. She sighed in relief, but then she heard an unearthly shriek before the sound of sharp fangs tearing opening fresh blood and meat was heard followed by the draining of fluids.

Oh god! Someone help! Penny screamed in her mind as the shrieking continued.
