Can You Keep A Secret?

What if George covered up for Lennie? What if he told Candy not to tell? What if George made it look like an accident? What if Curley's wife can't die?

Candy walked into the old barn. He wanted to talk to Lennie –he wasn't at the game- so he went to check the barn. "Lennie. Oh, Lennie!" he called out as he entered the barn. "You in here? I been figurin' some more about what we can do." Candy looked in the last stall where the puppies were. "Oh, Lennie!" he called again. His body stiffened and he rubbed his stubble with his smooth wrist as he looked down at Curley's wife's body. "I didn't know you was here." He said to her. She was lying on the floor half-covered by hay." You really shouldn't sleep out here." He said disapprovingly as he knelt down to wake her. "Jesus Christ!" he yelled when he found that she had no pulse. He looked around the barn helplessly. He jumped up and went to find George.

A few minutes later Candy appeared with George at his side." Now what the hell are you draggin' me in here for?!" George demanded when they reached the body. Candy pointed down at the dead women's body. "Jesus!" George said as he dropped to knees at placed his hand on the dead women's chest. When he stood back up his face was hard. "We need to hide her body" Candy gave him a confused look, but he continued. "We'll take her into the woods, make it look like an accident. I know where some big rocks are- she coulda fallen offa one of them. Jus' place her body there. All the rest of the guys are still at the game, so they won't see us." He picked up the girl's feet. "Come on, help me with her." Candy nodded silently and held the girl's hands in his one. They carried her out and around the barn and into the woods.

Candy's arm was tired by the time they dumped her onto the rocks. George had arranged her body so that it looked as if she had fallen off of the large pile of rocks.
