A happy family
A little hut in the woods
Dancing through the flowers
Chasing the baby boars
Singing in the rain
That was little Kaguya's life

The smell of the rain.
Water on her skin
Black hair stuck to her back
Wet and soaked
It was what she liked best

Collecting bamboo
Alongside her beloved Papa
Sewing and making clothes
Alongside her precious Mama
Being with them
Was what made her happiest.

Then suddenly, she had to leave.
No more forests, rivers, lakes, and bamboo.
To the capital she went
Forced to don robes and jewels
Put on display
As though she were a rare item.

Men vy for her love and affection
But she can't stand it
Why should she marry one of them?
She doesn't even know them.
Would they even be nice to her?

And all these strange rules!
Don't talk unless you're spoken to.
No running or swimming in rivers.
You must wear this and that at all times.
Write two hundred pages of this and that.
Be polite and proper, do not disgrace others.

All it did was make her feel trapped
She was suffocating, drowning, unable to escape
Everything piled onto her like a landslide
No longer was she free
This was too much

Too much
Too much
Too much
Too much
Too much
Too much

The moonlight heard her pleas.
The people of the moon
Floating on fluffy fairy clouds
Playing their lovely music
Descended upon the earth
To take Kaguya away.

She did want to be free, yes.
But she didn't want to leave
Her beloved Mama and Papa
Why couldn't she still stay with them?
Or why not bring them to the moon?
The Earth had its bad things
But it had so much good to offer as well.

Alas, Kaguya's pleas were ignored.
Her people took her away,
Freeing her from her pain,
Far, far away into space,
Did sad Kaguya fly.

Only in that moment
Did she realize
How beautiful the Earth looked
So far out into space.
But it looked so lonely.
