Dark Seas

As Orca, Crown Princess of the SeaWings, attempts to hide her powers, her family works to uncover her secrets. In the aftermath, one of her remaining brothers sets out into Pyrrhia to destroy animus magic for good, joining a thief with Queen Glacier on her scales, a captive-hatched MudWing, and a stone gryphon brought to life.

Stone Cold

Two years after Queen Scarlet was returned to power, tragedy strikes Pyrrhia. While Sunny has to grapple with her new responsibilities as queen, five seemingly unconnected dragons from all across the continent must follow a mysterious prophecy in order to stop a deadly drought.

Two dragons walked through the desert. An endless expanse of sand, reaching far beyond either of their eyes could see. Here, they were alone. Nothing and no one could bother them.

"I've heard it said that a misplaced grain of sand can cause the rise and falls of queens," the brown one said. "That the smallest change could lead to a drastically different future."

The orange one pushed her paw through the sand, letting the grains fall through her talons as she lifted them in the air. She snorted. "Do you believe it?"

The brown one shook his head. "It's a simplification. The truth of the matter is that it depends on the system you consider. Falling sand will always hit the ground."

The orange one stared down at the sand in her paw, a halo of blue flames suddenly rising up from her scales. The sand suddenly glowed a bright orange, before she turned her paw over, cooling glass falling into the desert floor. "Huh."

"Other systems are completely unpredictable," the brown one continued. "A flipped scale? How can you predict that?"

"If I was doing the flipping, I'd predict that the scale would melt," the orange one snorted. "That seems true to me."

"Not every scale," the brown one smiled. "There will someday exist dragons whose scales even you can't melt."

"Doubt it," the orange one tsked. "Hey Cal, how much longer do we have to walk through this desert? Can't we just fly?"

"Patience, Ignite," the brown one said to her. "And please, call me Calamity. Let me finish my tale."

"That's a funny name," Ignite commented.

"As I was saying, there are many systems still that might look to be unpredictable at a first glance," Calamity continued, "but there might be parts you can predict. Even if you don't know the speed and direction the wind will blow, you might still have a good idea of when."

As if to prove his point, a gust hit against the side of Ignite's snout, pushing her head to the side. She turned her head towards it, to see where it had come from. Far in the distance, a light as bright as the sun's fire burned on the horizon, rising up as it lit the sky.

"Is that what you wanted me to see?" Ignite asked, mildly impressed at the distant explosion. "Are you going to teach me how to do that?"

Calamity laughed. "No. Unfortunately, I've predicted that your powers will never allow you to do something like that."

Ignite huffed, mildly annoyed. She stared up at the cloud as it continued its ascent into the sky, the light fading. She raised a wing as the wind blew sand against her, protecting her eyes as it turned into glittering glass.

"With enough time and effort, someone could conceivably predict even the random motions of scattered grains of sand," Calamity continued. "But it seems far easier to just have the wind blow them where you want them to, don't you think? That way, you know which way they're all going. Alongside the wind you set in motion."
