Well, we finally did it. We finally got to the end. Thank you all so much for reading and reviewing this story, it is the most popular fanfic I have ever written by far and I am so glad that people have appreciated it. I really hope you enjoy reading this final chapter as much as I enjoyed writing it :)

One year later

"Wow." Nurf stated. "So this is a mess, huh?"

The kids took in the mound of concrete and rubble in front of them. it was somehow, underwhelming.

"Can you believe we used to live here?" Nikki exclaimed, frowning at the demolition sight in front of them.

"It was a hospital Nikki, not a home." Neil said, leaning on the wooden barrier that kept civilians away from the pile of debris that had once been a hospital.

"But wasn't it kind of both though?" Nikki batted her eyes at him a little. Neil rolled his eyes at her, but nodded.

"I don't know, it's kind of sad." Harrison said. "We did all spent ages here and now it's just, gone."

"Good riddance if you ask me." Preston muttered. "This place was a dump, an utter cesspool of filth and the like. Though it was our dump. And inspired me for the setting of my next masterpiece."

Everyone groaned and rolled their eyes at him.

"This never inspired me." Dolph said. "Though right now the rubble and destruction does have a certain artistic charm. Perhaps I can come back after my family's holiday to Spain next week."

"Speaking of families." Nikki turned to Nerris and Harrison. "It's official now, isn't it? You guys being brother and sister."

Harrison nodded eagerly, the hair that he now had flowing in the breeze. It was already past his ears, and he was 'growing it out' according to Nerris.

"We want to get bunk beds!" Nerris told Nikki. "But my mum told us that we'd be sick of each other within a week."

"Oh I know all about that!" Nikki said eagerly, seizing Neil by the arm. "Though I don't think Neil and I could get sick of being siblings!"

"Nikki!" Neil shoved her off. "Just because my dad and your mum are dating again does not mean we are brother and sister! She'll just get bored of him and dump him like last time!"

"Nah." Nikki shook her head, still grinning wildly. "I know the look my mum gets when she actually likes a guy. We're siblings now."

Neil growled and kicked a stray pebble with his shoe.

"Hey, where are Gwen and David?" Ered wondered aloud. "Didn't they like, say they would be here?"

"Maybe they couldn't make it." Nurf said with a shrug. "I had to specifically find time out of my new job." He raised an eyebrow at Ered. "How did you find time to come when you're so busy with," He chuckled. "Extra coursework."

Ered shoved him. "Urgh, don't remind me! I was forced to give up skateboarding because of my failed stunt, and now for some reason I'm at the top of my class because of all the extra time I have!"

Nurf laughed again. "Nerd."

"No!"

"Ooh, fight!" Space Kid cheered, bouncing on his heels.

"What's this about a fight?" Came the kind, yet concerned voice they all knew and loved.

"David!" All nine kids cheered at once. David grinned.

"Hey guys. Miss me much?"

"Of course not!" Nikki said defensively. "David who?" She rushed in and hugged his legs. All the kids crowded around, beaming, ready to share what was new in their lives.

"Hey, no hugs for me?" Came another voice. Nikki and Neil recognised it instantly and rushed forwards to hug Max.

"Max! I didn't think you were coming!" Neil said excitedly before clearing his throat. "You, uh, you didn't respond my text messages, that's all."

"And how come you're here with David?" Nikki asked. Max sighed.

"He brought me here." He muttered. "And my phone ran out of credit, that's all."

"Oh right." Neil nodded. "I guess your mum's not been helpful since your dad went to jail."

"Can only get away with drug smuggling for so long." Max said with a shrug. "My mum's been pretty indifferent since, just lets me do my own thing."

"Lucky." Nikki sighed. "My mum's really cramping down on getting me to do what I'm told and whatnot."

"Well, Max's parental situation might be changing pretty soon, huh Max?" David nudged him happily. Max glared.

"David, we said we wouldn't-"

"Wait, David is adopting you?" Nikki exclaimed. "That's so cool!"

"Double lucky." Neil sighed.

"Whoa whoa whoa!" Max held up his hands. "It's not definite, he just won't shut up about it!" He elbowed David.

"Well, I just think a more constructive environment might be helpful for you Max." David told him, eyes shining. Max sighed.

"Hey guys, sorry I'm late!" Gwen called, running up to them, dressed in a formal business suit and heels. "Work's been a nightmare lately."

"Oh Gwen, you have nothing to apologise for!" David exclaimed. "Or should I say, CEO Gwen!"

"David, it's just an internship." Gwen sighed, nudging him fondly.

"Well yes, but I'm sure you'll rise to the top in no time!" David encouraged her. "I can't believe I used to share a room with the future head editor of the city's newspaper!"

Gwen facepalmed, but she was still smiling.

"So?" David turned to the rest of the kids. "How's everybody been? I want to know every little detail!"

"Well, there's not much to tell..." Preston said eagerly. "Except that I'm playing the lead in the city's junior community theatre production next week and I'm inviting all of you to come! The more people, the more we get paid, so it would be excellent if you all came!" He grinned extatically.

"Wow, that's fantastic Preston!" David patted him on the shoulder. "I'll be sure to reserve a seat!"

"Yeah, good for you." Gwen said encouragingly.

"I've always wanted to go to the theatre again!" Space Kid bounced up to him. "My mummy took me to see War of Worlds last month, and I loved it!"

"Oh, you've seen it? The composing is some of my favourite!"

The pair happily began a conversation as some other kids came forwards.

"How is your sister doing, Nurf?" David asked. "I hope everything is going okay at the foster home."

Nurf nodded with a smile. "Oh yeah, everyone loves her there. And even if they didn't, I'd beat them up!" He chuckled a little. "But in all seriousness, thank you for taking care of us, David, and setting me up for some counselling. I don't know where we'd be without you."

"No problem, Nurf! I'm just glad your situation is stable."

He turned to Dolph, who was standing nearby. "Speaking of stable, I saw your community art project in the paper last week, Dolph, and I'm so impressed! You've really stepped up your game!"

Dolph grinned sheepishly. "Oh, guten tag, uh, thank you David. I really worked hard on that one."

"You parents must be pretty proud of you kid." Gwen said with a smile. Dolph nodded.

"Yes, my mama talks about me everyday to her friends and her therapy group. And my step father is the one who buys me new supplies every week. He says it's good I am expanding my creativity, and setting a good example for my little brother about defeating toxic masculinity."

"Aww, that's great kid." Gwen smiled. "Have you heard from, uh, your dad?"

Dolph shrugged. "We phone call every month, but it is not for too long. And, I like it that way."

"Well, whatever he says, we're proud of you kid."

Dolph grinned up at her. "Thank you. I am proud of me too."

Max, Nikki and Neil had turned away from the rest of the conversation and towards the demolished hospital building in front of them. Even though it had been over a year since he had left, Max still sometimes woke up in the middle of the night missing the sounds of friendly midnight chatter between other patients, or even just the sound of other people breathing in the same room. It reminded him that he wasn't alone.

Of course, he knew he wasn't alone anymore.

Max took out the little phone that David had given him all those months ago and snapped a quick selfie with the ruins. Nikki and Neil stopped arguing about whatever they had been arguing about and quickly photobombed his second picture.

"Hey!" Max swatted them away good naturedly. "This is going on Instagram!"

"Good!" Nikki said, giggling. Neil chuckled, Max grinned and before they knew it, the whole trio was laughing harder than they could manage.

"Oh man, this hospital might have been a pile of crap, still is, but it did do at least one thing right." Max said, still breathing heavily from all the laughter.

"What?" Neil asked.

"Put me in the bed next to a complete psychopath!" Max said happily. "And a girl."

"Hey!" Both of them exclaimed at the same time. Max laughed again.

"Yeah, but I don't mind. You guys are both pretty awesome." He said. Nikki and Neil smiled and tucked their arms around him.

"Come on man, let's get one together." Neil took his phone and they snapped a picture in front of the demolition sight.

"And that's why next year, we won't be attending the comic con in SanDiego." Nerris finished, and she and Harrison immediately started laughing. David joined in. Nerris and Harrison's story had been so ridiculous and full of hijinks that he didn't doubt it had happened for a second.

"That definitely sounds like a good idea." David said. Harrison giggled.

"Oh, David, I almost forgot." He said quickly. "Congratulations on making it to doctor!"

David beamed. "Aww, thank you Harrison! It took a while, but I'm ready to start working soon! I can't wait."

David congratulated Nerris and Harrison on their official brother and sister status, and as they wandered away to talk to Space Kid, he looked over to see Max and his friends enjoying themselves. David smiled happily. Max might act like he didn't want to be adopted, but David knew deep down, the kid was thrilled. Life at his parent's house hadn't gotten worse since his stay at the hospital, but it hadn't gotten much better either. Max usually stayed out of their way and out of the house, which had lead to a consistent companionship between him and David, mainly David buying him lunch.

Whatever they wanted to call it, Max was looking into the foster system and David was looking into his possible status as a foster father. The apartment he had gotten after moving out of the ward at Campbell Hospital was too small, but when he stated working at the best hospital in the city, he would be able to move into a better place. As someone who had lived in foster care for a large part of his life, David was ecstatic to give a kid a chance to get out of it. Especially a kid like Max.

"So, what happened to your dad anyway?" Gwen asked him as they surveyed the demolished hospital together. David sighed.

"I don't really know. After I stopped working for him we sort of lost touch. I think I gave him a lot to think about and, he wasn't ready to think about it. Maybe he never will be."

Gwen patted him on the shoulder in sympathy.

"And after the hospital got shut down and demolished, I'm pretty sure he moved to Thailand, so we won't be seeing much of him for a while."

"Oh." Gwen didn't know what to say.

David turned to the happily chatting former patients in front of them. So what if they had come in with third degree burns, bullet wounds and life threatening illnesses? So what if they had fallen off rooftops, drank too much alcohol on a bad night or tried to do the unthinkable to themselves? They were all still here. They were here and they were happy. And that was a priceless feat.

"Hey guys!" David raised his voice. "I'm pretty sure we're causing an obstruction out here on the pavement, so how about we take this to a cafe?"

"Yeah!" Came the general cheer from the group.

"You'll have to pay for me, I don't have any money." Nikki called.

"Nikki, I can see your wallet sticking out your pocket!"

"Shh Neil, I want free ice cream!"

David chuckled and turned towards Max. "What do you say, the coffee shop from last week? I bet they'd all love it!"

Max nodded. "Yeah, sure." He walked practically arm and arm with Nikki and Neil. David grinned as they all set off walking.

So what if they weren't a ward anymore? They were all finally happy.

The End.

Thank you all so much for reading this story, there are times when writing has been difficult, but your kind words and many, many favourites and follows have always reminded me that you guys are out there supporting what I do! So thanks for that :)

In terms of my other Camp Camp fanfiction, Jasper's Curse, I really have no idea if I'm gonna continue writing that. I have ideas and the story mainly mapped out, but I have lost a lot of motivation when it comes to writing for this fandom. If Roosterteeth decides to drop us a new season, I don't know, I'll probably get my writing drive back, but in the meantime, wait around I guess?

I've spent two years on this fic and I find that super impressive, so again, thanks for your continued support of my work! I hope all you enjoyed reading :)
