Once, back before even the most ancient can possibly remember, Mim the Dragon Queen ruled everything. She kept balance and harmony, and all was well.

But then, one day, a stranger came. He was not from either the physical world or the world of dreaming, and was unknown to Mim. This was quite intriguing.

The creature said that its name was Fo, and that it came from a world beyond Mim's realm. It told her that it was dying, and wanted to come find a place to be buried, as there was no room from where it had come for a proper grave.

Mim said that she would help, and looked all around her worlds for a place to bury Fo, but alas, Fo was so big, everywhere was either too small or too shallow. Eventually, Mim came back and sorrowfully told Fo that she could find no place to bury him.

Fo told her not to worry, that he had another idea. He took a blade of grass and sharpened it enough for it to cut through anything. Then, with his last breath, he quickly cut up his own body and divided it, forming an entirely new part of the world. His muscles made the land, and his blood made the rivers. Lastly, his bones fell and scattered across this new land, made from what was once Fo.

But, a little bit of Fo's heart went into every bone, and they began to talk, and walk, and remember. Fo was gone, but he had left children.

And so, the city of Boneville and the Bones that inhabit it came to be.

I really like this one. I tried to provide my own explanation of where the Bones came from, while capturing that neat simplicity of myths.
