When the sun was nearly three hours from setting Donny and Mara made a stealthy break for it. When they got nearly ten minutes out from the Nazis they were suddenly surprised with four Nazis on the side of the road trying to fix their truck. They crouched behind a tree, quickly realizing what they'd have to do.

"You take the ugly one, I'll take fat-ass over there and then we'll come together for the other two." Mara nodded, checking her gun for bullets and content with the six it still held. Donny mouthed a count down and Mara's vision blurred as they ran out, killing the four in what seemed like seconds.

But before they could catch a breath they saw headlights not to far down the road and sprinted for the woods to hide.

Mara wheezed and clutched Donny's sleeve to help her keep his pace. After several minutes of running they both stopped and caught their breath, Mara heaving herself onto the ground, Donny struggling to stand.

After several moments of dense breath after breath they both got back on their feet.

"Fuck..." Donny muttered, looking around, running his hands through his hair. He had no idea where they were.

Mara closed her eyes, sighing and mimicking his same movements. Her hand caught in her hair though, making her realize that the both of them were completely covered in blood.

"We need to get ourselves cleaned up. There has to be a lake or stream somewhere around here. We can't go back into the city looking like we just murdered four people." Donny chuckled and nodded.

It took them very little time to locate a small stream, France's woods were full of them.

Donny watched Mara unbutton her shirt and clinched his teeth as the evening light clung to the slight muscles in her arms and the shadows between her breasts. Her skin looked soft; soft like velvet.

Through the thin cotton camisole she wore Donny could see the lace brassiere she wore beneath it and suddenly fought the pressure he felt in his gut.

Mara pulled her hair up and tied it at the top of her head with a piece of fabric leaving her completely exposed as she began dabbing her skin with a wet cloth. Donny had almost forgot of the blood the both of them were completely covered in.

Donny began washing himself sloppily as Mara padded her cheeks in just the right places like she was looking in a mirror. Donny was overwhelmed by the femininity she exposed at times like this. Sure she was obviously feminine any other day but when she was tending to herself, brushing her hair, clipping her nails, washing her face; Donny couldn't hardly fathom what he would be seeing.

She looked at him suddenly and Donny didn't even bother looking away.

"What?" He just shook his head.

"Nothin'." She eyed him and continued to wash herself and he himself. She looked at him again and moved over to him. She grabbed his cloth from his hand and began cleaning the dry streak of blood that went over his eye and into his hair.

Donny clinched his jaw as he watched her place her hand on the side of his face to steady him as she dabbed his eye.

"Not that I'm complainin' but I am capable of cleaning myself." Mara just smirked as she gently wiped his eye once more.

"You wouldn't have gotten it all." She replied as she dropped the cloth in his hands. Donny grabbed her hand and pulled her close to him and kissed her quickly. Mara's eyes widened as he held her in place. Donny closed his eyes and relished in her soft lips suddenly kissing him back. His hands ran through her hair, releasing her locks from their hold.

Mara pulled back slowly and watched him as he watched her. Neither of them said anything. Donny hoped he hadn't overstepped some sort of boundary but he did not regret it. And as Mara walked back over to her bag and smiled he felt a calmness he hadn't felt in a long time. Mara looked out onto the lake and folded her sweater and coat over her arm.

"It's gonna to get cold tonight." Donny said as he watched her nod and slip her sweater back on.

Donny and Mara created a small fire and sat close to it as the sun began to set. The temperature was quickly dropping and Mara tried not to shiver too much in her thin coat. Donny noticed though and put his arm around her. She jumped but slowly eased into his arms and leaned into him. Within the hour Mara had fallen into a gentle sleep as Donny held her and kept a look out. But as the fire began to go out Donny sighed as he tried to stay awake.

"Mara?" He shook her slightly. "Mara, wake up."

"Hmm?" She mumbled as her eyes fluttered open gently.

"I'm gonna lay down." She nodded as she followed him onto her side and pushed her chest against his. Donny wrapped his arms around her as they attempted to share each others warmth.

Mara awoke with a hot breath tickling her nose. She opened her eyes and nearly jumped when she saw Donny's face so close to hers. His breath was deep, not shallow, and smooth. The comfort she felt then when she realized Donny had a near death grip around her was an unwavering warmth. Her hands were clutching his lapels and Mara wondered how their limbs kept conscious of the danger they were faced with with the cold. But they had survived the bitter night. The sun was slowly rising but the cold had yet to lessen.

She snuggled closer into Donny's coat and felt his arms wrap tighter around her. Mara looked up at his face quickly to see him smile gently, but only slightly as he was still asleep and wrapped his arms around her as a reflex. Her eyes closed slowly and she found herself drifting off again for another hour.

When she woke up again Mara's eyelids struggled against the frost that had completely immersed the both of them. She looked up at Donny to see him watching her with a silly grin on his face as she rubbed her eyes and chuckled.

"Morning, sunshine."

"How long have you been awake?" She asked as she rubbed her eyes still.

"I was up most of the night. I dozed off a few times but not for very long." Mara suddenly became self-conscious. Donny had most likely watched her sleep for the entire night. She sincerely hoped that she hadn't had any nightmares or said anything in her sleep. But the more she thought about it, she realized she didn't really remember any of her dreams last night. She looked up at Donny and smiled gently.

"Thank you." She said quietly. He nodded.

"Didn't feel comfortable going to sleep with the threat we were facing. I also didn't want you to freeze." Mara rested her hand on his cheek and kissed him gently. It was a "thank you" for watching over her, Donny understood that very well but it didn't make him any less excited by it.
