He'd wanted to be a singer; he'd lost his mouth. He had wanted to spend his life in London, living a normal life with the woman he'd thought he loved. He'd lost her in the explosion his powers had caused when they'd initiated, taking out his mouth and her legs. He'd known his life would never again be the same long before agreeing to leave Britain and come here to this special school in the States.

He knew most of the others wanted to be heroes, but Jonothon had come here for one reason only. He wanted to learn to control his powers so he could return to London and possibly have that normal life for which he so yearned. Yet, like all his plans, it seemed fate was determined to screw him. Heroics seemed to be a part of being in this school, regardless of rather or not one actually wanted to be a hero.

Like today, when Jonothon's new friends had been kidnapped by his ex-girlfriend and some goons. He'd arrived late but quickly "heard" their telepathic distress signals. Now, at last, he'd found them. The heart he shouldn't have quickened at the sight of his new lady love strung upside down. Her eyes were shut, but she wasn't dead. She couldn't be dead.

{Hang on, luv. I'll free you,} Jono promised, but yet, like all his promises, he'd be kept from keeping this one, too. It was just like he'd heard Jubilee say, Jono thought as he was attacked from behind: Some days, it didn't pay to chew through the restraints. His last thought before he was rendered unconscious was, {Forgive me, Paige,} and though he'd wake again, after their teachers had saved them and Generation X was safe again, Jono's life had once more been changed.

The End
